Insuring against heart break

Above all Britons would love to insure their love life if they could. But when it comes to the realities many are failing to protect themselves, a new survey has found. Given the opportunity, Brits would pay to protect their hearts, if only they could, with over 9 million UK residents who would pay money to insure their relationship. One in four Brits would also like insurance against getting old, the survey by Abbey National reveals. But while one in five women would buy cover against gaining weight, only one in ten of men would be happy paying out for piling on the pounds. Whilst many of us are dreaming of what we could insure against, however, seven million adults in the UK do not have any type of insurance at all. A worrying 22 per cent of Brits have not taken out home contents insurance and three in ten drivers say they have no car insurance. Half of the UK's population have no life insurance Abbey reveals, and four in five people have no protection in case they cannot work because of critical illness. "It's not suprsing that so many people said they worry about gaining weight and getting old. But on a more serious note, too many people are taking chanches when it comes to the things we care most about in life such as the family, health, home and car," said Sue Wilkinsin, head of health and protection insurance at Abbey. "Arranging insurance needn't be a hassle and could end up making all the difference during difficult times."
