'Owzat for cheaper home and car insurance

A surge in the popularity of cricket after England's historic Ashes victory is causing headaches for home and car owners up and down the country. Young children, eager to be the next Kevin Pieterson or 'Freddie' Flintoff, are crashing cricket balls through the windows of houses and denting cars, sending their owners batty. Some insurance companies have reported a 200 per cent rise in cricket-related damage to cars and homes, as children attempt to recreate the 2-1 Test win over Australia in streets and cul-de-sacs. Motorists are also urged to consider cheaper vehicle insurance, after cricket fans caused a surge in the number of bumps and scrapes to cars and vans over the summer by listening to games on the radio and losing concentration on the road. The summer sports-craze is not only limited to cricket however, as last year a swell in the number of amateur golfers after the 2004 Ryder Cup series caused car and house windows to be peppered with golf balls. Motorists also needed to check their car insurance documents after wing-mirrors and lights were broken by footballs, as children emulated David Beckham and Wayne Rooney in Euro 2004.
