Many Britons are planning to celebrate Bonfire Night with their own fireworks, filling the evening sky with rockets, Catherine wheels, smoke and explosions - although many are ignoring the potential risks to their homes and cars. Research by Churchill Home Insurance has found that one in five Britons preparing home displays on November 5th need to pay more attention to safety, as nearly half admit to storing the potentially lethal fireworks indoors, and a third simply keeping the fireworks in the cardboard box they come in. "Personal safety is clearly a major issue for homeowners hosting parties on Bonfire Night," said Martin Scott, Churchill's head of home insurance. "However, few will realise they can be held legally responsible if their guests are injured by a stray firework," he added. Churchill revealed it receives claims rocket on Bonfire Night for damage to homes, garden sheds and conservatories, as well as carpets, roofs and front doors.
