Home insurance 'essential' for Christmas parties

Britons are being warned to check their home insurance over the festive period as Christmas party accidents could result in huge bills for the homeowner, according to a leading insurer. A NatWest Home Insurance survey has found that one in four of those who do are unaware that they are liable if an accident involving another person happens on their property, whilst more than a fifth of Britons fail to insure their property at all. This insurance apathy on the part of UK homeowners is leaving them open to huge payouts should something go wrong over the party season. Bob Trinder, head of NatWest Insurance Services, commented: "Insuring your property against all eventualities is vital and it is concerning to see that over a fifth of Brits neglect to buy insurance at all. "What's more, in the upcoming party season, a good home insurance policy will protect you against any accidents that happen both to your belongings and to any guests in your home." The average Briton holds five parties a year, inviting around 120 visitors to their home although the survey found the over 65s are the most likely to hold a party, hosting nine a year. Homeowners are encouraged to check their home insurance policies regularly and shop around online for the cheapest quotes for household insurance especially as the festive season really begins to kick in and the nation lets its hair down.
