Makeover shows push up house values

A new study has found that the popularity of television shows which see people having their homes redecorated is helping to push the nation's property prices up.

According to research carried out by Privilege Home Insurance, television programmes such as Changing Rooms have helped to add value to houses across the country.

However, while people increase the value of their houses through inspiration from television programmes, it is also important that they do not forget to up their home insurance to cover the changes.

One in five admitted that makeover programmes on television had given them the inspiration to carry out improvements on their own homes.

According to Privilege, £51 billion has been added to the value of the UK's property sector through the collective hard work of homeowners looking to improve the quality of where they live.

With so much money at stake, homeowners are being urged to regularly update their home insurance policies so as to ensure that they are covered in the event of damage to the property.
