Homeowners fear festive season damage

Fears over potential damage to property are causing homeowners to abandon plans for a Christmas knees-up. According to new research from Lloyds TSB Insurance, four in five Brits are reluctant to allow a party to take place in their home, with around one in five claiming that the risk of damage is to blame for their anti-party spirit. "It's little wonder Jingle Bells are turning to alarm bells when it come to hosting a party at home," said Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance. "With the risk of damage to carpets, curtains and furniture increasing when spirits are raised, more and more of us are unwilling to add the cost of domestic repairs to the final bill for Christmas celebrations." Lloyds advised that those planning on hosting a party should reduce the risks of damage by ensuring that home insurance policies are in place. This will help to safeguard both property and contents if things "get messy". Surprisingly, the insurance provider found that residents aged between 16 and 24 are the least keen to throw a party in their home this Christmas.
