Put home insurance before romance couples warned

St Valentine's Day may be the one day of the year when thoughts of home insurance are furthest from our minds, but providers are warning couples looking forward to a frisky February 14th to ensure they are covered for damage to their homes during those lustful liaisons. But for those that don't there could be far more than an expensive meal and an engagement ring to pay for after St Valentine's Day. Despite repeated warnings of the financial impact of having no home insurance, 20 per cent of British householders have no contents insurance at all, according to a home insurance study carried out last year by Natwest. For those who rent out their homes this figure is even higher, with 44 per cent of people admitting to having no home contents insurance, despite premiums being lower than they were a year ago. And with hundreds of millions of pounds worth of damage caused by amorous couples, St Valentines Day can work out far more expensive than expected. New research from Ann Summers found that one in three couples have broken something while involved, whilst ten per cent of couples have actually made claims for damage to household items. People from the south-east are the most likely to have a love-related accident, although a third of couples have neither home nor home contents insurance. Ann Summers chief executive, Jacqueline Gold said: "It's fantastic that people are adventurous - but they need to be careful."
