Children in Britain are storing a fortune in gadgets and technology in their bedrooms and parents are being urged to make sure they are properly insured. A new study for Lloyds TSB Insurance estimates that British youngsters now own £28 billion worth of high-tech equipment. Home experts found that a third of youngsters have expensive electronics and technology worth up to £2,000 in their bedrooms and as many as one in ten kids have a staggering stash of more than £5,000 worth of toys. More than seven in ten children surveyed had televisions in their bedrooms, almost 60 per cent owned a games console, 34 per cent had been given an iPod or mp3 player and over half had a DVD player. British children are also well connected, with a third (32 per cent) owning a PC, ten per cent kitted out with broadband and 13 per cent able to watch digital TV or Sky TV in their bedroom. But parents are being warned to double check their home insurance and home contents insurance to make sure they are covered for their children's possessions. Lloyds TSB Insurance managing director, Phil Loney, commented: "With high tech trends set to continue, its important that parents ensure their home contents insurance is updated to include the ever increasing value of their kid's bedrooms."
