Consider claims when taking insurance

When taking out insurance one should read the fine print on how to file a claim, as certain companies have more stringent standards than others, says market research firm Defaqto. Certain insurance companies require that their clients report their claims within 24 hours and are extremely tight on this deadline. Associate director of Defaqto Brian Brown said: "How tight the claims management is should be a consideration. With some you have to report all claims within 24 hours and some companies stick to this to the second. "Others may ask for a copy of the exact receipt - try producing that with your wedding ring" The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) also advises that it is best to claim on insurance right away to avoid problems. Even if one doesn't claim on an incident, the CAB advises that you tell an insurer about any event, as you might find that if you don't it could lead to a snag later on when you do wish to make a claim.
