Britons fret about home security while abroad

Almost three quarters of British people worry about the security of their homes while on holidays abroad, a new survey has found. Security equipment manufacturers Micromark have performed a survey that has found that 72 per cent of Britons worry about their homes being burgled while they are abroad. The survey also found that 85 per cent who have installed extra security features are able to relax more and generally had a better time abroad, without worrying about getting burgled. Such measures can have the added benefit of lowering home insurance premiums. Everyone should take some basic steps to prevent burglars having an opportunity to help themselves to your possessions, especially while you are on holiday," said Mick Laurie, Crimestoppers CEO. Nathan Cole, security product manager at Micromark, said: "Coming home to find you have been burgled can ruin your holiday. From under £30 consumers can protect their most valuable assets - as well as treasured possessions that cannot be replaced, such as jewellery, heirlooms and family mementoes." Further research done by Micromark has found that almost half of burglars 49 per cent focus on an empty house as an inviting target. The Foreign Office has predicted that over 100,000 Britons will travel to this summers World Cup in Germany.
