Neighbourly disputes rife in UK

Arguments and conflicts between neighbours in the UK are common, according to new research. A third of people have had massive rows with neighbours, a survey by home insurer Cornhill Direct has found. Some, 14 per cent in fact, have even had to move house because of internecine warring with their neighbours. A spokesman for Cornhill Direct said: "Having neighbours you know and trust is important. A real sense of community helps to reduce crime and vandalism and makes for a much safer place to live. "A large number of the claims we deal with involve civil disputes between neighbours. Many of these problems could easily be avoided if they would just talk to each other." A third of respondents did not know the name of their neighbours and 53 per cent admitted that they did not bother to introduce themselves when moving in. Many even go to the lengths of hiding in their garden sheds to get away from their neighbours, the research found.
