As the summer rolls on, parents could find themselves paying the price of having their children at home for the holidays. Almost a third of parents report their children causing accidental damage while at home during summer vacation, with the damage adding up to a massive £2 billion, a survey by Lloyds has found. Anything from smashed windows to broken furniture can ensue from bored children stuck at home during the summer holidays. Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "Any parent knows that kids can be costly. With children spending so much time at home during the long summer holidays, the risk of damage to our properties also shoots up. "Home insurance might not be a legal requirement but it really can come to the rescue where children cause havoc in the home." Eight out of ten parents have spent at least £100 in the past year repairing damage caused by their children. Britons will spend an average of £1,604 on their main summer holiday this year, according to recent research by Sainsbury's.
