Marrying couples 'should insure'

A marriage costs an average of £15,000, new research from insurance company More Than has found. Many may find it worthwhile to ensure that wedding gifts, rings and in some cases the bride's dress, are covered under a home insurance policy. The average cost of a wedding dress alone is £1,000, research by More Than uncovered. Craig Allen, home insurance product manager at More Than, commented: "Weddings are expensive and stressful enough without the added financial burden of something being stolen or damaged. "Although it may not be top of your agenda, it's worth making a quick phone call to your insurer to make sure you have the benefit of extra cover." There were 311,180 weddings in the UK in 2004, one per cent more than in 2003, according to national statistics. The year 2001 saw the lowest number of weddings since 1897, with 1972 having been the peak year for marriages, at 480,285.
