Parents advised to insure student offspring

As A-level results are frantically scanned today and those lucky enough to be university-bound make their preparations, parents have been advised to add their children to their home insurance policy.
Students' expensive possessions, such as laptops and iPods, can be added to many parents' home insurance policies for free, according to price comparison website moneysupermarket.
Often students make ripe targets for burglars and thieves.
Peter Gerrard, moneysupermarket.com's senior researcher, said: "Unlike other areas of student life, insurance should not cost the earth.
"In fact, it may not cost anything at all if they are able to take out cover under their parents home contents policies. It's easy to do and will save much needed cash at a time when budgeting is tight."
Several large insurers like Tesco, Norwich Union and esure offer this option for no extra charge, added Mr Gerrard.
Recently new research from Saga found that ten per cent of students will be robbed in their first year of university.
