Over 60 per cent of Brits fear for the anti-social state of the nation, the country is becoming less neighbourly, new research reveals.
According to a survey from home insurance provider Norwich Union, 55 per cent of Britons do not know the names of their next door neighbours.
People's reluctance to get to know their neighbour could have an effect on home insurance, with local residents often proving invaluable in some situations.
Over 80 per cent of the nation agreed that having neighbours keeping an eye on their homes when they are away can reduce the risk of burglary.
Paul Redington, claims manager from Norwich Union comments: "It's clear that developing strong neighbour relations allows us to build a picture of people's lives, their families and comings and goings.
"A good neighbour can provide valuable advice about the community you live in [and] a watchful eye to help prevent the risk of crime."
