Drivers suspicious of speed regulator

Government proposals to make all cars have an Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) have met with resistance from the Association of British Drivers (ABD).
The device monitors the car's location using a global positioning system and digital roadmap, then feeds information to driver on what speed they should be going.
However the ISA is also linked to the car's mechanics and regulates the speed a driver can accelerate to on certain roads.
Brian Gregory, ABD chairman, said: "The only real intelligence in a vehicle's control system is found between the ears of the driver.
"We blunt that intelligence at our peril."
The parliamentary council for transport estimates that up to 36 per cent of accidents which result in an injury could be avoided using ISA's and a full 59 per cent of injuries which result in death could be averted.
However the ABD states that ISA's are relatively unproven and nowhere near advanced enough to be made mandatory.
