The tail-end of Hurricane Gordon is to hit the British Isles, bringing gale force winds and a deluge of rain that could pose a flood danger to homes.
Parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland will be worst hit by the hurricane.
Winds of up to 75 mph are predicted when Hurricane Gordon hits, along with at least two inches of rainfall.
A Met Office spokesman said: "Gusts of 70 to 80mph are expected.
"Winds of this strength early in the autumn are likely to lead to disruption to transport and power supplies."
The Ryder Cup, taking place at the K Club, in Straffan, County Kildare, will likely be disrupted by the stormy conditions.
Home insurance provider Liverpool Victoria advises homeowners in areas at risk of flooding to put all their valuable documents – including home insurance policies – in a waterproof container of some kind.
Liverpool Victoria also advises homeowners that should flood damage occur, it be reported immediately.
