Home insurance is priority cover for 'nearly a quarter of Brits'

Nearly one-quarter of Britons believe home insurance is the most important cover to buy, claims a new survey.
Some 23 per cent of respondents believe insuring their home and contents is the number one priority with nearly three in four (74 per cent) taking out cover on their property and possessions, according to a poll from protection firm Bright Grey.
The survey also found that one in five householders are covered for a breakdown of their central heating systems and 15 per cent of Britons have insured white goods and their mobile phone.
However, the poll also revealed that fewer people are taking out mortgage insurance.
Roger Edwards, product director at Bright Grey, commented on the results: "Less than a quarter of people protect their mortgage - over three times more people insure their home contents."
"All this points towards the need for consumers to seek advice when it comes to cover, to help them understand their priorities, the options they have and to get the right things insured."
A recent report from price comparison site Moneysupermarket.com suggested that Britons could save almost £1,000 in two months if they searched for cheaper home insurance as well as more competitive credit card, mortgage and loan deals.
