Cornhill: Add accidental damage to home contents insurance

Homeowners planning to throw a New Year's Eve party are being advised to add accidental damage cover to their home insurance policies.
The cover, which could protect them from any unexpected pay-outs should an accident occur, is being recommended by Cornhill Direct after it conducted research into new year celebrations.
It was found that accidents resulting in home contents insurance claims cause 60 per cent of party-throwers to vow never to host a bash again, with almost half of the respondents saying their carpets were stained with red wine during the celebrations.
A third said that cigarette burns had caused damage and 15 per cent had the job of cleaning up vomit from their soft furnishings.
Cornhill Direct's spokesperson, Mark Bishop, suggests that would-be hosts move breakable objects out of the way and provide bins for guests to put their rubbish into.
He adds: "For peace of mind we recommend adding accidental damage to your home contents insurance policy."
Cornhill Direct offers travel, home, car and commercial vehicle insurance.
