MP3 players 'feature heavily' in home insurance claims

The rise of personal stereo gadgets such as MP3 players has caused them to feature "heavily" in home insurance claims made last year, it has emerged.
According to new research from Lloyds TSB Insurance, a number of people were forced to claim on their home contents insurance after dropping MP3 players and iPods down the toilet, in the bath and in the washing machine.
Yet while these may sound like quirky accidents, the insurer also listed a number of reasons given by customers for damage occurring in their homes.
Included in these was a dog, who when left home alone, wagged his tail and knocked a pot of white emulsion paint all over the floor.
And one claim for a digital radio came after the owner's granddaughter dropped it in the pond to try and make the fish dance.
Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, suggested the importance of checking home contents insurance policies to find out exactly what they do and do not cover.
"This can help to give you piece of mind when life is being unpredictable around you," he said.
The firm also offers travel, motor and pet insurance policies, offering discounts if policies are bought online.
