'Burglaries decreased this Christmas'

Home insurance claims relating to theft and burglaries decreased by 30 per cent last December, against the same period in 2005, it has been claimed.
Peter Horton, operations director of general insurance at Liverpool Victoria, which conducted the research, attributed this figure to the increased presence of people staying at home with family and friends over the festive period.
However, the amount of the average home contents insurance claim rose by £224 from the previous year, reaching £1,465.
And the news could benefit those with household insurance, as by avoiding making a claim on their policy, they could find prices do not increase when it comes up for renewal.
"It's reassuring to think that fewer people had their Christmas ruined by the trauma of burglary than in previous years," Mr Horton added.
Liverpool Victoria also offers car insurance, loans and savings products.
