AA: Home insurance still value for money

Home insurance policies still offer value for money even though car insurance premiums may be rising, it has been claimed.
According to the AA British Insurance Premium Index, prices for home insurance have not changed a great deal over the past three months.
The average buildings insurance price rose by 1.26 per cent to approximately £209, while home contents insurance fell for the second quarter in a row by 0.5 per cent to £148.
And while some buildings insurance premiums have increased due to freak weather events, Kevin Sinclair, the AA's managing director of insurance, said that it will take a number of these for prices to be affected significantly.
In addition, he advises consumers to not only shop around but to ensure they are not substituting low premiums for high excesses.
"They need to make sure they're aware of what insurers are offering for their money," he said.
"Making a claim is the wrong time to find that your cover doesn't meet expectation."
The AA offers breakdown cover as well as a range of insurance products.
