Insurer issues guide to protect against bad weather

Many parts of the country continue to experience frost and snow this week and an insurance firm is offering advice to help homeowners secure their property during the period of bad weather.
Saga Home Insurance maintains that there are many quick and inexpensive steps people can take to protect their homes, which could prevent the need to make a claim on buildings or home contents insurance.
These include ensuring that all garden furniture is put away or stored safely to protect it against high winds, checking for loose roof tiles which could fall off and cause further damage and being aware of where the gas, water and electricity switches are in case they need turning off.
In addition, the insurer is advising people to keep a torch and batteries handy as this may be of use should a power cut occur.
Forecasts from the BBC's Weather Centre predict temperatures of between zero and three degrees for the next four days, with frost and ice everywhere.
