DIY 'preferred by 75% of homeowners'

UK homeowners appear to prefer having a go at jobs around the house instead of hiring a professional, research has found.
Some 75 per cent of Britons would rather do-it-themselves than pay an expert for jobs such as decorating a bedroom or fitting a kitchen, according to Cornhill Direct (CD).
But the insurer is warning those who do enjoy a spot of DIY to add accidental damage cover to their home insurance policy, given that 17 per cent of people confessed to previously causing a DIY disaster.
"We have seen our fair share of DIY related claims over the years so people should make sure they know what they're are doing and use the right tools for the job," CD spokesman Simon Coughlin remarked.
Various blunders during DIY could include dropping a hammer or other heavy tools, causing damage to items of furniture; other accidents might be drilling into an electrical wire or spilling paint.
