National holidays such as the recent Easter weekend could give rise to an increase of breakages and mishaps in the home, it is claimed.
According to research by home insurance company esure, the top cause of holiday squabbling was when children were asked to tidy their bedrooms, followed by arguments over bedtimes and staying up late.
In addition, some 25 per cent of parents said they dreaded the Easter holidays as it could give rise to bickering and boredom, while one in twenty families admitted problems were caused by relatives coming to visit.
Nikki Sellers, head of home insurance at esure, explained the potential pitfalls of holiday squabbles.
"The Easter break means more family time together in the home, with the kids' friends round and visits from friends and relatives, families need to take extra care as the likelihood of accidents will soar."
Homeowners can opt for accidental damage cover on their household insurance policies, which could provide financial assistance if repair or cleaning work is needed.
