'Check home insurance for bike theft'

Those who use a bicycle are being advised to check if their home insurance policy covers bike theft if it is stolen from a public place.
According to Halifax Home Insurance, levels of bike theft have reached record figures, with one being taken illegally every 71 seconds in the UK.
This is an increase of ten per cent from the previous year and represents a value of £146 million worth of bicycles being stolen, which the insurer believes is a result of more people cycling in an attempt to become eco-friendly.
However, last year saw one per cent of bikes taken from homes, while 89 per cent were stolen from public places even though they were locked up.
The remaining ten per cent were unsecured bikes taken from public places - but riders are being advised to consider extra precautions.
"It may be worth considering spending a little more money for a high-security lock that might stand a better chance of deterring a thief," said Vicky Emmott of Halifax Home Insurance.
Various types of bike security can include d-locks, cable locks and chain locks.
