Home insurance provider offers DIY tips

Budding DIY experts are being offered five top tips to keep in mind when embarking on a project, as any mishaps incurred could be costly if adequate home insurance is not provided.
According to Prudential Home Insurance, 11 million UK homeowners do not have the correct cover in place should a DIY job go wrong, which could leave them out of pocket with a repair bill.
But the company is advising would-be handymen to thoroughly plan a home improvement task right from the very beginning to finishing the job, as this could minimise the risk of damage to property or home contents.
In addition, Prudential also suggests using "quality" materials and tools, while following any instructions very carefully and never taking any short-cuts where safety is concerned.
And if it is a big task, seeking advice from a qualified professional could be invaluable, claims the financial provider, which also offers travel and car insurance.
"We would advise those thinking about carrying out any DIY tasks … to speak to their insurer first and keep them informed of any major redevelopments," remarked Phil Southgate, media relations manager at Prudential Home Insurance.
