Workers at home 'should check household insurance'

Those who work from home are being advised to check what items are covered by their household insurance.

According to Cornhill Direct, given the choice to work at home, 69 per cent of office workers said they would do so and one in five admitted they would take a pay cut if it meant being able to do this.

However, the company is suggesting that home workers confirm their home contents insurance is adequate and protects goods used for commercial purposes.

"[Items] may not be adequately covered or covered at all by a standard home insurance policy, particularly if removed from the home," said Mark Bishop, a spokesperson for Cornhill Direct. "Home workers do need to consider the insurance implications."

Those looking for home insurance quotes could search online, where they may be able to compare prices and find the most suitable level of cover for their circumstances.
