Home insurance 'may not cover some alarms'

Certain types of domestic security alarms may not be covered by home insurance policies, a professional in the sector has warned.

Duncan Bland, marketing director at home improvements firm Everest, also recommended homeowners thinking about fitting an alarm should consult their household insurance policy before doing so and check what is covered.

In addition, Mr Bland discussed the differences between the quality of security systems and the importance of correct, and if necessary, professional installation.

"Homeowners need to be aware that there is a huge difference in quality and reliability between the different models available," he continued.

"It pays to choose a quality system and to have it installed by an approved alarm installation company."

Everest specialises in products for home improvements, as well as CCTV and security systems.
