Consumers advised to check home insurance cover

With summer approaching, Britons are being advised to ensure that they have adequate home insurance to cover subsidence damage.
According to a study by moneysupermarket.com, there was a 33 per cent rise in subsidence claims on homes in 2006 compared to the previous year.
Last year, subsidence claims on domestic property accounted for about £302 million, an increase from the £225 million recorded in 2005.
Overall, the average house insurance claim for subsidence damage was reported to be more than £1,000.
However, with the Met Office suggesting this summer could be hotter than average, Richard Mason, director of insurance for moneysupermarket.com, suggest claims could be set to rise even further.
He said: "If you notice signs of subsidence in your existing property notify your insurer immediately to ensure the problem is dealt with early."
"If you live in an area of drought you are likely to be more at risk from subsidence so make sure you check your building insurance is up to date," Mr Mason added.
Last week, homeowners were advised to check their home insurance cover after figures by Abbey indicated neighbours cause an average of £172 worth of damage to property every year.
