Home improvements 'becoming more popular'

Carrying out home improvements and larger-scale DIY projects is becoming more popular, an expert in the sector has claimed.

The comments, which may be of interest to those needing to switch or buy new home insurance, were made by a spokesperson for retailing group B&Q.

He said that people are becoming more interested in home improvements as a way of getting more out of their property and said that refitting a bathroom was currently on of the most popular projects.

"People are still hugely interested in home improvement and want their homes to reflect their personality and style," he concluded.

When embarking on renovation or decoration improvements, it may be a good idea for homeowners to check what is covered by their buildings and home contents insurance in the event of damage being incurred.

It might also be worthwhile to consider the effect of any new structures - such as a conservatory or extension - on a home insurance policy.
