Close to 10,000 home insurance claims have been registered in the wake of the torrential downpours across the UK, according to a national newspaper.
Abbey Home Insurance has stated that of the 8,600 cases reported after the dangerous weather came to Britain, 3,200 were for flood damage, the Sun has reported.
Furthermore, 5,200 claims were made due to storms and 210 were based around lightning problems.
Speaking on behalf of the Association of British Insurers, Malcolm Tarling claimed that this month could prove costly for the industry.
"Many people will be looking to make claims on their home insurance so it is advisable that everyone who would like to make a claim look into doing so as quickly as possible," he said.
The floods hit the UK at the beginning of the week, killing three people and leaving hundreds unable to reach their homes, according to the BBC.
