L&G: Check home insurance before holiday

People in the UK are being advised to check their home insurance policies and secure their property before jetting off on holiday.
At a time when the unseasonable UK weather may be tempting Brits to warmer climes, a new survey from Legal & General (L&G) found that two-thirds of the population usually leave their keys with family or friends so they can check on the house while it is unoccupied.
However, the home insurance provider said it may also be wise to ensure quality door and window locks are fitted in the property before going away.
Suggesting that people be "mindful" about who they leave their keys with, L&G's marketing director Garry Skelton also said homeowners may want to check or update their personal possessions insurance to make sure they do not return home to a costly bill.
Another method of safeguarding the home might be to install light switch timers which automatically turn lamps on and off to give the illusion the house is occupied.
