Cover baby equipment, says home insurance firm

Parents are being advised to ensure adequate home contents insurance for their baby equipment, after a new survey discovered found that mums and dads spend an average of £2,628 getting a room set up for a new arrival.
Halifax Home Insurance found that among the more traditional nursery items, parents are now choosing to buy plasma TVs and designer furniture for their little one's bedroom.
Other forms of decoration include signed football kits, while one respondent had invested in a series of original film cells from the movie Star Wars.
In addition, budgeting for such an event did not seem to be a priority for many parents; over two-thirds said they had not planned how much to spend - and ten per cent of those who did ended up blowing the budget by £1,000.
"Parents are spending almost half the price of a new car on their children's home nurseries," remarked Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting at Halifax Home Insurance.
"Expectant parents bringing thousands of pounds of new items into the home should check their home insurance policy to ensure they have adequate cover."
Home contents insurance can also include clauses such as accidental damage, which may provide assistance should a mishap cause damage to the nursery.
