Students should up security, says home insurance firm

Students preparing to leave for university need to realise that security in halls of residence is not always as thorough as their home and could put them at risk of theft, it has been claimed.
And Churchill Home Insurance has urged those entering higher education to make sure their level of home contents cover is enough to protect them financially should a burglary occur - especially if they are including items under a parent's policy.
Research conducted by the company found that over a third of students do not have a lock on the door to their new room, while "only" 12 per cent use an ultra-violet pen to mark their possessions with personal information.
Spokesperson for Churchill Home Insurance Abi Clark said: "One in ten students suffered a theft or a burglary while away at university last year so it is important parents realise the level of security in student accommodation is not always as comprehensive as in their own home."
Many pupils will be heading off to university in September after the publication of their A-level results on August 16th.
