Home insurance customers warned of heavy rain

Following the extreme weather conditions seen by Britons in June and July, a home insurance company is urging people across the country to take precautions ahead of more rain forecast for this week.
Halifax Home Insurance said although an increased number of houses have become at risk of flooding in recent years, there are simple steps that can be taken to minimise the potential damage.
These include placing sandbags outside doors and turning off the main water, electricity and gas supplies before a flood hits.
In addition, the insurer suggests unplugging electrical items and moving as much of the furniture as possible upstairs.
If a home has already been affected by a flood, Halifax is offering tips to ensure further damages are limited as much as possible, such as drying out appliances and keeping any ruined items for the insurance company to inspect.
"Those who are already affected by the recent floods can also take measures to ensure their property is returned to its normal state with as little disruption as possible," explained Halifax's senior manager of underwriting Vicky Emmott.
Various areas of Yorkshire experienced flooding last month, as did southern regions such as Gloucester and Tewkesbury.
