University-bound students' parents 'should re-examine home insurance cover'

The parents of students preparing to attend college and university should examine the impact their children moving away from home will have on their home, car or health insurance, according to a US insurance commissioner.
Insurance commissioner for Pennsylvania Joel Ario stated: "Parents of college-bound students must remember that their child still needs to have insurance coverage for emergencies."
Although the advice given pertains to families in the USA, it is equally applicable to those preparing to attend colleges and universities in the UK
Mr Ario stated that living in a rented property and running a car while attending an educational institution away from home may have consequences for the insurance policies and urged parents to seek independent financial advice.
A and AS level results, which play a significant part in college or university applications in the UK, were released last week.
