Home insurance firm reveals "wish list"

The top ten most wanted features in a property have been revealed by a home insurance firm, with a big kitchen coming in first place.

Legal & General (L&G) conducted research into what would be at the top of buyers' wish lists when they bought a new home.

Some 15 per cent put the big kitchen at number one, 13 per cent would ideally have a large garden and in joint third place was room for an extension and a master bedroom en suite.

Also on the wish list was an attic, a dining room, a living room with open fire and a cellar with the potential for conversion, according to the home insurance company.

"What may be important to some is different to others when it comes to buying their home," said Ruth Wilkins, head of communications of L&G's general insurance business.

She added that home insurance may be available to suit each consumer's individual needs and ensure peace of mind with a straightforward product.

L&G also offers life insurance and travel cover.
