Increasing number of consumers seeking home insurance online

Some 66 per cent of consumers used the internet to shop for home insurance in 2006, according to a recent survey.
Research by customer experience benchmarking firm Global Reviews indicates that 81 per cent of customers would use the internet to get a quote for their policy this year.
The company gauged consumer experience on 21 home insurance websites against around 500 criteria including the ease of application, level of customer support and quality of information made available.
Director of Global Reviews Adam Goodvach stated that events such as the recent floods in the UK remind consumers of the need for adequate home insurance and the likelihood of needing to make a claim.
"Unfortunately consumers' online experience varies widely depending on the website they visit. Many websites focus on quotes and applications at the expense of policy and claims information," he added.
Earlier this month, Halifax Home Insurance offered advice to customers who may be affected by more potential floods, including using sandbags and moving valuables upstairs.
