Ensure home insurance covers children's possessions, says Abbey

Parents should make sure that their home insurance policy provides cover for their children's personal possessions while they are at school, according to Abbey.
Investigation of government statistics by the bank suggests that around 60 per cent of personal theft against children between the ages of ten and 15 occurs in school.
Head of insurance marketing at Abbey Prasad Shastri commented: "The report suggests that the majority of school children who are victims of theft believe that it is just 'something that happens', which is encouraging for the emotional well being of a child."
Mr Shastri added that this does not, however, alleviative the monetary encumbrance to parents who can end up spending hundred of pounds on hi-tech gadgets for their children.
Abbey recently announced that some 2.3 million consumers will renew their home contents insurance in September due to the month still being viewed by many as the unofficial start of the year as it is in school and university.
