Musicians 'should check how much their home insurance covers instruments'

The home insurance cover afforded to musical instruments may not extend to include liability when performing or on tour, an insurer has warned.
Pavilion Insurance Management stated that many budding rock stars assume that their instruments will be afforded cover by their home insurance, when there may be restrictions such as to what type of property they can be kept in.
Monica Dougall commented that some performers take out inadequate cover as they wish to save money but often end up unprotected, adding that cover is not just for larger, expensive instruments.
"That's for all instruments. If they're a musician, all their instruments should be covered," she said.
Recent research by esure advised parents to make sure that the contents of their children's school bags are covered by their home insurance policy as the average rucksack - which often contains a musical instrument - is worth some £265.
