Expensive hobbies 'may require additional home insurance cover'

Some 32 per cent of people spend over £250 on their main pastime, research by financial firm Friends Provident has suggested.
The study indicated that nine per cent of respondents invest more than £500 to get a new hobby started and that six per cent of people shell out over a thousand pounds on their main leisure pursuit on an annual basis.
Psychologist Anna Colton commented: "As modern life gets more stressful and busy, we may well see increasing numbers of adults trying out new hobbies or returning to hobbies from their youth, for comfort and enjoyment."
As pastimes may require the purchase of expensive specialised equipment, it may be advisable for consumers to add such items to their home insurance policy to protect them in case of theft, loss or damage.
For those who enjoy music in their spare time, Pavilion Insurance Management recently advised musicians to check that their instruments are protected by their home insurance policy as well as to ensure they are covered for liability when they perform in public.
