Claims on home insurance 'may be avoided via better security habits'

Homeowners are being urged to ensure that they are rigorous in their home security practices - and avoid having to claim on their home insurance - following a spate of burglaries in Oxfordshire.
A police spokesperson commented: "In all five cases the householders had lifted up the door handle to engage the locks around the frame so the door could not be opened from the outside."
It was noted that in all five cases, an added level of security was missing as none of the residents had used their key to lock the door and in each case the door was forced open due to the lack of adequate precautions.
According to the Oxford Mail, cash, bank cards, cameras and mobile phones were taken in the incidents.
Consumers were recently advised by home insurance provider LV= not to advertise the contents of their homes to potential burglars by leaving the packaging from expensive purchases outside for recycling.
