Tornado damage and home insurance advice from the ABI

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has today issued advice to consumers following a recent series of tornados across the UK.
Vehicles will be protected if a comprehensive motor insurance policy has been taken out and home insurance policies will cover the cost of alternative accommodation - up to a pre-specified limit dictated by the policy - if individuals need to move out of their house while repairs take place, reports the association.
Director of general insurance at the ABI Nick Starling stated that while extreme weather such as windstorms are infrequent, unforeseen incidents such as tornadoes or floods are exactly what insurance policies are in place for.
"Insurers will be doing everything possible to help policyholders who have suffered damage and will be dealing with all claims as quickly as they can," he added.
Legal & General recently advised consumers to ensure that their home insurance policies covered any changes in their requirements so they still had an adequate level of protection.
