Make certain home insurance covers home office equipment, says Zurich

An increase in the popularity of working from home has been identified in new research from home insurance company Zurich.
The study by the insurer reveals that some 30 per cent of respondents spend time during the month working from home and 21 per cent of those who do not officially work from their own house state that they occasionally read documents or check email while in their property.
Many consumers have invested in office equipment for their home office, according to the research, with the average replacement value of office equipment reaching £1,140.93.
Zurich managing director Mark Searles comments that workers who have invested in their home office should ensure that they protect their possessions, should an unexpected misfortune occur.
"Making sure that office equipment is adequately insured as part of a home contents policy is crucial for those who rely on home computers and other technical equipment for work purposes," he added.
Consumers were recently advised by Legal & General to make sure that any changes in their circumstances or requirements - such as investing in an office located in their house - are covered by home insurance policies.
