Home insurance policies 'should cover bedroom contents'

Consumers were advised today to check that their home insurance policies fully protect the contents of their bedrooms, following research by Abbey Home Insurance which suggests that one in four Brits consider it the most important room in the house.
The study by the insurer suggests that the average contents of bedrooms in the UK, - including televisions, computers, art and antiques - are now worth over £4,000.
Some 1.26 million individuals state that the contents of their sleeping quarters are over the £10,000 mark.
Head of insurance marketing at Abbey Prasad Shastri comments: "With over a million people valuing the contents of their bedroom alone in excess of £10,000 it is vitally important that people check their insurance policy to ensure they are covered, including any additional cover they need for valuable items."
Brits were also advised today to ensure that the contents of home offices were sufficiently covered by their home insurance policies as research by Zurich indicated that the average replacement value of equipment in such facilities currently stands at £1,140.
