Home insurance consumers advised of "peak time for burglars"

With skies growing darker earlier and children back at school in the daytime, the next few months have been identified as "a peak time for burglars", according to the Guardian.
It may be advisable for consumers to check the fine print of their home insurance policy to ensure that they comply with any conditions laid out in it, such as fitting British Standard-approved bolts and locks to windows and doors as insurers may reject claims if they are not met.
A spokesperson for Churchill Insurance stated that while properties in low-risk areas may only require basic security features, people living in high-risk areas may need more advanced protection, such as deadbolts and mortise locks.
According to the National Security Inspectorate, some 20 per cent of house burglaries in Britain take place without force being used due to lapses in the security habits of homeowners, such as leaving windows or doors unlocked or ajar.
