New research has suggested that homeowners are prepared to spend some £8,500 on security, which may well result in lower home insurance premiums.
The study, carried out by Alliance & Leicester, indicated that some 52 per cent of respondents would invest in a CCTV system to keep an eye on windows, doors and the property's perimeters and 53 per cent would spend on motion-activated security lights.
Some 32 per cent stated that they would like a security patrol and a fifth would be ready to invest in bars for their doors and windows.
Richard Al-Dabbagh, senior personal loans manager at the firm, commented: "It is only natural we should want to protect our homes. Clearly the best way to do so is to invest in equipment which will either deter or prevent would-be burglars from attempting to break in."
The Association of British Insurers recently identified the combination of security lights and gravel drives as being particularly effective security measures to lower home insurance
