Parents may face costly home insurance claims through damage done to their houses by children and pets during the upcoming half-term holidays, it has been reported.
Walls, carpets and other flooring were identified as areas of the home most at risk, according to new research by Sainsbury's.
Steve Johnson, head of Sainsbury's home insurance, commented: "A week of having your children at home can be a challenge in terms of keeping them amused and entertained.
"If the weather is poor and they have to spend more time indoors, the chances of your home being damaged in some way by them or their friends increases," he said.
The firm estimates that some 900,000 people may experience some kind of property damage effected by young children and family pets during the half-term holidays.
However, adults may also cause damage to their homes through half-term home improvement accidents, as data from Halifax suggests that some 750,000 Brits have damaged their homes carrying out incompetent DIY jobs.
