Homeowners 'can lower their home insurance'

Homeowners need not pay through the nose for their home insurance.
Such is the opinion of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), which today stated that there are a number of proactive steps that such consumers can take to reduce the cost of their premiums.
Jonathan French, assistant director of media relations at the ABI, noted that good quality locks on doors and windows are an advisable investment.
But he added that good home security habits are just as important as purchasing quality products, stating that consumers should ensure that windows and doors are locked when their home is unoccupied.
"On wider basis, by shopping around within the home insurance market, which is very competitive, they can find really good deals out there," Mr French concluded.
According to ABI research for last year, approximately 75 per cent of UK households have some form of home insurance for the contents of their homes.
